Gangwon-do
You can arrive in Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, which is near Seoraksan Mountain, after about 2.5 hours from Seoul Express Bus Terminal or Dongseoul Bus Terminal.

Seoraksan National Park is renowned for its colorful fall foliage and landscape covered with snow in the winter. It is moving to see the mysterious mountain terrain changing colors in each season. Although there are many hiking trails, a more convenient way to explore Seoraksan Mountain is to take the Seorak Cable Car inside the park. You can enjoy the scenery around the mountain up to the far away East Sea. Go to Wondae-ri Birch Forest in Inje-gun to be healed as you walk along the birch trees sky-rocketing up above the sky. It is recommended if you like hiking, since a round trip from the entrance to where birch trees are dense takes about 2 hours. Entrance to the forest is restricted during the forest fire prevention period (November 1 to December 15). Once you have explored Gangwon-do’s mountains, go to the energetic seaside. Junumjin Port is a representative port on the East Sea. Fresh raw fish can be enjoyed here, and looking at the dozens of fishing boats or the noisy Jumunjin Seafood Market will be interesting. Coffee shops, a coffee museum, coffee plants, etc. are found on Anmok Beach Gangneung Coffee Street, the hot place in Gangneung. Drink a cup of coffee with a view of the sea.

Gyeongju
Gyeongju still has traces of the Silla Kingdom (BCE 57-CE 935) with a 1,000-year history. It can be reached after about a 4-hour journey from Seoul Express Bus Terminal by bus, or 2-hour ride from Seoul by KTX. Historic sites of the remarkable Silla Kingdom can be found all over the city.

Do you think it’s going to be boring if there are only old historical sites? Don’t worry about that, because you can feel the charm of a city that perfectly coexists with history. A typical example is Hwangnidangil Road in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju-si, which got its name from Gyeongnidangil Road in Itaewon. Cafés and popular restaurants with sophisticated interiors existing among the old buildings create a unique atmosphere. Many tourists take in the scenery of the 1,000-year-old capital city from a rooftop café or take photos wearing hanbok. You must visit Bulguksa Temple, a representative relic of Gyeongju. The temple was designated as a World Cultural Asset by UNESCO. The night views of Cheomseongdae Observatory, the oldest observatory in Asia, and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, a palace site, are popular as bright lights shine at night. There is also Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park. Here, numerous exhibitions and performances are held. You must go up to the observatory of Gyeongju Tower, a landmark here, to admire the views. It also holds exhibitions related to dramas such as The Great Queen Seondeok and The Moon That Embraces the Sun.
